i_am_lord_voldemort: (ghost.)

I'd much rather stay at Hogwarts than go back to that.

The Heir of Slytherin has come home at last.

Name:Tom Marvolo Riddle ( Lord Voldemort )

Iam the Heir of Slytherin,
I never lose.

this is the beginning of my finest hour
you will see

Personality It's hard to say what went wrong during Tom's childhood to form the monster that the Wizarding World knows as Lord Voldemort/The Dark Lord etc. etc. later on. Perhaps it was some inherent flaw lurking inside of the boy or perhaps the world simply failed the orphaned Heir of Slytherin. Regardless, by the time Albus Dumbledore reached Tom, he was already a sadistic thief. His record of toying with the other orphans was quite impressive for a ten year old and yet Dumbledore did not foresee anything truly wrong with the boy.

Any warning bells Albus might have heard and/or experienced were not enough to stop him from placing a wand in Tom's hands. That turned out to be a grave mistake. Once Tom started learning Magic, there was no stopping him from learning what he wanted when he wanted.

Albus was the only one who was not fooled by Tom's charming nature and crafty mannerisms and yet, still, the Professor did nothing to stop the boy from barreling forward. Granted, he didn't know how Dark the teenager had truly gotten. What was once the bullying nature of a child had now turned into the cold-blooded, murderous ambitious will of an almost adult. Even if Albus had noticed the signs, Tom would have resisted any of his assistance.

At the point I am taking Tom for the game, he is contemplating going further than he ever has before. Instead of only tricking others into doing what he wants or threatening them into silence, he is considering murder. But this will be murder for a higher purpose. Tom is a calculated opponent. Once he considers someone or something an enemy, he will do his research before he attacks. (As a side note on his calculated nature: The reason why he is that way is because he thinks that if he covers all of his bases, he can't possibly be killed unexpectedly. Until he finds a way to be truly immortal (i.e. the Horcruxes), he doesn't want to take any chances.)

(Addendum: I know I have cited Tom's interactions with Albus a lot in his personality, but I believe those interactions are what shapes and displays his true Darkness the most. To the other Professors (and just about everyone else), Tom wears a facade of brilliant if not somewhat tormented (because of his past) student. But to Albus, Tom is, more or less, himself. He has a much harder time pulling the wool over Dumbledore's eyes and that frightens him. Thus he avoids him at all costs. This is probably why Albus misses so many of his Darker traits in his later Years at Hogwarts.)

(Second Addendum: When I capitalize "Darkness", I am referring to Dark Magic as well as the "monster within" (i.e. the murderous/cruel side of Tom).)
